Flash Game Philosophy

Turn off your fucking speakers!

Some recent comments about my shitty games have got me thinking about Flash games and the internet. My problem stems from my approach to Flash games.

Flash games are meant to be played for ten minutes then forgotten, but not before tricking your friends into playing them. They're great at work because you can turn the sound off and your boss won't be able to tell that you're wasting your time. They're also great because as long as they garner hits, they don't need to be innovative, creative, or even interesting.

I think of my games as miniature console games from a decade ago:

-They're meant to be enjoyed. If you don't want sound, turn off your speakers. If you're supposed to be preparing spreadsheets or something, go fuck yourself and get back to work.

-Games back then didn't have "sponsors" in-game telling you to buy more of their shit and neither do mine. Well, for the most part.

-My games are story-driven. The characters are a huge part of the experience and nothing is there for just the fuck of it. I've had a few discussions over the finer aspects of Millie's personality and the deeper motivations of Kilzek's relationship. There was concern about Millie being "out of character" at the end of Millie 4. Random Cooking Clone 1567 or Defense Game RU-486 has never sparked anything like that.

Obviously, I have no idea what I'm talking about because my games have been a catastrophic failure so far since they're shit as far as gameplay goes. MTC sits at around 500 unique visitors a day. Probably twenty people will read this article. People have done much better with four flash games.

There are all kinds of Flash cartoon series out there. Why can't there be Flash game series like mine out there? If you know of any please send them my way, I'd like to see them.
