Character Choices

What your avatar says about you.

If you've played any game that allows you to customize your character, you've no doubt been faced with the daunting task. The choices you make for your virtual self will be seen and judged by everyone that sees you. Some of these judgements, however, are mal-formed and often incorrect.

False Judgement #1: A guy playing a female character is gay/a pervert. Why would a gay guy play a female? That makes as much sense as a lesbian playing a male character because she's sexually aroused by men, which she's not. If anything, butt-pirates are more likely to make male toons than straight men because of the sweaty combat situations the players get into that require the flexing of their many muscles and wistful glances into the camera. Therefore, playing a male character is the equivalent of slapping a fellow man's ass then later throating his cock. You might as well, you've already shown the intentions.

The more feminine the character does not indicate how homo the man. It's more a measure of how much of a weirdo he is. A toon dripping in sugary sweetness, estrogen, and tea cozies is a strong indicator of a nut-job, not a snurd gurgler. Freud could probably attest to that.

By playing a female character, men get to satisfy their urge of controlling a woman unquestioningly, as God intended. In fact, I'd be surprised if there was a whipped married man out there somewhere who DIDN'T play a female character to get his small revenge against womankind. Unfortunately, the feeling of being God ends as soon as the game does, and it's back to being controlled and dying inside.

People speculate that men who play female avatars are perverts. While this is mostly true, players usually try to create a character that's completely awesome or easy to look at for long periods of time. Nobody makes fugly avatars outside of a joke unless it's unavoidable.

Finally, I'd like to address the issue of a female lead in my games. Usually, I fucking hate it when there's a female lead in anything else. Why? The character is often beautiful, spunky, crusading for love, and most importantly, happy. I'm an unemployed college dropout. I don't want to hear about some happy-go-lucky goddess who is on a quest for love.

Male leads often do not have this problem. Take Harry Potter, for instance. He's been dealing with stupid bullshit his whole life. He doesn't live in a dream world of pixies and unicorns. Wait, maybe he does, but that's not my point. At the young age of 17 he was man enough to essentially take a bullet in his face to save humankind. I bet that feat won't be replicated by any spunky heroines any time soon.

Millie is not a happy character--she has problems with anger. It is this anger with everything that makes Millie a tolerable female lead role. She's not throating Kilzek's cock to get him to like her, she's not talking about her hurt feelings with the demons, and she's certainly not hoping for a brighter tomorrow. In short, Millie is essentially a very masculine character despite her titties and giney.

This will never happen. For free, anyway.

False Judgement #2: People who play Night Elves on World of Warcraft are straight. I mean, come on. A bunch of men sleeping together for a few thousand years while the women frolic around in the forest and presumably scissor to their hearts' content. Tell me what's hetero about that.
